Four days at the international stone fair. Nine tesserae left my hands and went home with the people who had stopped to look at them — to Rapolano Terme, Esine, Castro, Zevio, and then much further: Gurgaon in India, Çankaya in Turkey, and two of them together to Wilayat Barka, in Oman.
Every one of them was an exchange. They gave me their time and their openness, and showed me their own exhibition space inside the stand; a tessera stayed with them. It seemed the right way to find out whether a six-centimetre object can travel that far and still mean something.
